By Joe Parello (@Herewegojoe) St. John's (Shrewsbury) vs Algonquin is the premier lacrosse rivalry in Central Massachusetts, but the Pioneer defense made sure Friday's D2 Central/West quarterfinal wouldn't be another classic, clamping down on the Tomahawks en route to a 12-4 home victory. St. John's (14-6) built a 6-0 lead heading into intermission, with six different goal scorers, and extended that advantage to 9-0 in the third. The Pioneer defense was spectacular all around. Algonquin (13-7) had four scoring chances in the first quarter, but goalie Matt Mongeau turned each of those shots away. The junior would finish the day with 13 saves
