ACTON - The three-time defending D1 champs passed a very difficult first test on Saturday. St. John's Prep traveled to face Acton-Boxborough in the season opener for both squads and with a big crowd on hand, it felt a little bit like a game in May, although there was some sloppy play that reminded everyone it's still March. The Eagles came away with an 11-9 victory thanks in large part to a huge 6-1 second quarter that created some separation. Even with all the big wins over the years, this was the first one for the program on the road at A-B under head coach John Pynchon. Cam McCarthy and Luke Kelly had hat tricks for Prep.
