CONCORD -- Winchester punched their ticket back to the Division 2 state championship game for the first time since 2000 on Monday night with a 10-3 win over Central/West champ St. John’s (Shrewsbury) at Concord-Carlisle High School.
The Sachems clung to a 4-3 lead at the half but took control in the final two quarters with a 6-0 run to close out the contest. A dominant defensive effort and second-half shutout, headlined by junior goaltender Matt Suffredini (14 saves), turned out to be the key difference. Junior attackman Grant Murray led Winchester with five goals, three of which came in the fourth quarter to seal the deal.
