FRANKLIN, Mass. – When Xaverian and Franklin meet in the state tournament, you can throw out the records.
On Sunday evening the Hawks and Panthers treated fans to a third consecutive exciting game in the Division 1 South bracket, but No. 12 Xaverian emerged from the scrap with an 8-7 victory to upset fifth-seeded Franklin.
“We got hammered in the regular season,” said Xaverian head coach Tim Gardner. “We’re only here because we did well in the Catholic Conference and the younger guys on our team were really tested. The guys I put on the field in playoff games, I trust because they’ve been through a really tough regular season.”
